As a physician, practicing medicine in rural New Mexico, Dr. Fahad Inam knew that there was room for improvement in healthcare. We had all of this groundbreaking technology that the healthcare industry was failing to utilize to its full potential. How could we get more from what we already have without breaking the bank? How could we ensure quality healthcare to patients in the most remote parts of this enormous country? EnAim Telehealth is the brainchild of Dr. Inam, the result of one man’s passion to bring quality healthcare to as many people as possible at a fraction of the cost.

Armed with vision and foresight Dr. Inam began to build EnAim Telehealth just before the global pandemic hit, then in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis, EnAim Telehealth opened its digital doors. Here they stand, offering a lifeline for rural hospitals, overwhelmed by the pandemic. Hospitals saw their patients undergo arduous transfers to distant hospitals, causing discomfort and complications. Causing their families to commute long distances while their loved ones underwent treatment in a new and unfamiliar environment. The state of rural healthcare and healthcare, in general, was failing these patients, and worse off, the lack of patients would force facilities to close, costing even more lives.

EnAim Telehealth is a network of highly specialized doctors, experts in their field, that contract out through the telehealth service. Through teleconference with the doctors at the smaller medical facilities, their patients get unlimited access to the expert opinion they need, therefore limiting the trauma of hopping from one facility to another and ensuring that the facility can keep the patient in their care. Patient’s families no longer had to spend hours traveling to the nearest metroplex in order to visit their loved ones.

According to ClinicalCorrelations.Org, patients with more frequent visitors often experience better long-term patient outcomes. Isn’t this what healthcare wants? To have better patient outcomes at a fraction of the cost? Utilizing the telehealth services of EnAim Telehealth ensures that patients can be treated in their home hospital, without their hospital necessarily needing to recruit doctors or build a specialty clinic for anomalous conditions.

It would seem like an easy decision, but pre-pandemic, facilities and patients alike were hesitant to trust in the telehealth process. But amidst the global tragedy, we saw innovators find a way to deliver hope when we needed it the most. With social distancing in effect and hospitals overloaded, the need for specialists who were available at a moment’s notice who could both monitor and control machines like ventilators while giving crucial life-saving advice to doctors on-scene became invaluable.

People began to put their trust in telehealth out of fear, while not totally understanding that this model was built for the long haul, not just the dark days of a pandemic.

The question for many remained, how will telehealth continue to be relevant in a post-pandemic world? Telehealth services remain relevant for several reasons, the first of which being quality of care for patients. By virtue of working with an EnAim Telehealth specialist, rural doctors will increase their knowledge of treatment for certain conditions, therefore improving future patient outcomes. In addition, these specialists are exposed to a wide variety of cases and patients, giving them years of experience in a fraction of the time. These two factors alone give credence to the necessity of telehealth.

There is a bigger issue that telehealth specialists can address. All too often rural facilities face budgetary constraints that large metropolitan facilities do not. Transfers and the lack of specialized care see these facilities losing patients and therefore money hand over fist, fighting, just like the patients they serve, just to stay afloat. With a reduction in transfers and a low overhead compared to hiring or building new facilities, EnAim Telehealth becomes a force multiplier for many hospitals. Thus providing them with the resources they need to remain a staple in their rural communities simply by staying open.

What started as a vision to ensure patients receive care in the comfort of their home hospitals, surrounded by their loved ones as they deal with the heartache a hospitalization can induce, has blossomed into an industry that reduces the number of transfers, improves the Case Mix Index, improves patient recovery time, improves patient satisfaction and reduces readmissions.

The efficacy and efficiency of telehealth services mean there is infinite room for growth with the addition of new specialties that continue to expand the capabilities of rural facilities with top-tier care at a fraction of the cost. With such demanding specialties as Cardiology, Neurology, Nephrology, and more, there is room for specialties such as hematology and oncology, even Nutrition-based weight loss to make their way into the EnAim Telehealth lineup.

With so many benefits, it’s hard to see why any facility would pass up an opportunity to save money, enhance the knowledge of their doctors, and give patients both their time and their lives back. All of these were made simple through nationwide telehealth services from EnAim Telehealth.
