Whether you are recovering from a procedure or illness, the immune system can become strained and hinder your body’s ability to heal itself. Fortunately, there are ways to accelerate healing and give your immune system the boost it desperately needs.

Fill Up on Nutrients

A healthy diet of organic foods is always helpful. However, it may be challenging to consume all the nutrients you need from food alone. Speak to your physician about the multivitamins or supplements you can add to your regimen to speed up recovery.

Alternatively, you can try I.V. therapy. Intravenous treatment injects nutrients directly into your bloodstream through a drip. With the right combination of vitamins and minerals, you can supercharge immunity in less than an hour.

Take It Easy

It’s normal to want to resume daily duties after treatment or surgery. After all, someone needs to pick up the kids from school, and the house is not going to clean itself. As tempting as it is to ignore your doctor’s advice to take it easy, it is in your best interest to take time off to heal.

Daily life can be stressful, and stress can weaken your immune system. If you have a busy lifestyle, it would be wise to find out how much downtime you need first and schedule the date of treatment accordingly. Assign responsibilities to others and give yourself time to rest.

Use Water

Water has healing power. If you already drink 8-10 glasses a day, you are well on your way to recovery. But did you know that water can be used in other ways to promote healing?

Unless your doctor advises otherwise, taking a hot bath can improve blood circulation, relax muscles and reduce pain. Cold water, on the other hand, can soothe inflamed skin and manage itching.

Drink it or soak in it, water has the potential to unlock your natural healing capability and fast-track recovery.

 Laugh More

A healthy dose of laughter every day can release stress-relieving, immunity-boosting hormones. Binge-watch your favorite series, play board games with friends and family, find hilarious memes on the internet – whatever puts a smile on your face. A positive, stress-free mind can do wonders for your health.

Break Bad Habits

Smoking and excessive consumption of alcohol are common hurdles to healing. Cigarettes starve the body of oxygen and disrupt blood flow while injecting poisonous chemicals into your system. Too much alcohol can increase your risk of infection by weakening resistance to harmful bacteria.

If you are not already on a program, find a way to stop smoking as soon as possible. Speak to a doctor about all your options, medical or otherwise. As smoking and alcoholism tend to have emotional roots, counseling is recommended.

The human body is built to heal and repair itself. But once in a while, it endures an abnormal amount of stress, such as with illness, surgery, or treatment. Give recovery a push by filling up on nutrient-dense foods or I.V. vitamin therapy, resting, avoiding nicotine and alcohol, and maintaining a positive state of mind.
