What is a Brazilian Butt Lift?
A Brazilian butt lift, AKA BBL. Is a procedure Dr. Daniel Lee performs where fat transfer augments the size and shape of the buttocks. There are two long term procedures for buttocks augmentations. There is the BBL and gluteal implants. During the BBL fat is removed by liposuction from areas usually on the abdomen, back, hips, and sometimes inner thighs and upper arms. The fat is then transferred to the buttocks area to shape and augment the butt to the patients preference. Dr. Lee can improve the proportions of the entire lower body, helping the patient lose fat in problem areas and enhance the buttock with long-lasting results.
Why Have a Brazilian Butt Lift?
A persons buttocks are largely determined by genetics; both the bone structure and how the body stores fat. A healthy diet and exercise can work to achieve healthy body weight and tone the muscles. However, many patients remain unhappy with a box or flat buttocks that lack shape, even despite a healthy lifestyle.
BBL surgery can help overcome the effects of genetics by reshaping the buttocks and surrounding areas, such as the hips, lower back, and thighs. You might consider a BBL to:
Enhance the curves of your lower body
Reduce fat pockets on your hips, thighs or abdomen while adding fullness to the buttocks
Help clothing fit more attractively
Give a more youthful, aesthetically pleasing shape to a flat buttocks
Enhance your overall proportions by improving the balance between your upper and lower body
Am I a Good Candidate for a Brazilian Butt Lift?
A BBL can be a great option to improve the shape and size of your buttocks; however, certain patients are better suited for the surgery, and its important to have realistic expectations about the surgery, recovery, and results. In general, you are likely a good candidate for a BBL if you agree with the following:
You want a buttock augmentation without implants
You have good skin tone in the hips and buttocks
You have adequate fat stores in other areas to transfer for injection into the buttocks
You are willing and able to avoid sitting directly on your buttocks for 2-3 months
Despite its name, a Brazilian butt lift does not lift your skin to address loose skin on the buttocks. If you have excess, sagging skin on the buttocks or thighs, then a thigh and/or lower body lift may be needed.
What is the Risk for a Brazilian Butt Lift?
Although like any surgery there are risks the minor risks of a BBL are uncommon. These risks included bleeding, infection, postoperative fat necrosis, nerve damage, tissue ischemia, postoperative chronic pain. The most serious risks is a pulmonary fat embolism that can lead to death. This risk is less than 1% and Dr. Lee has never had this occur to any of his patients. This can occur when a surgeon injects the fat too deep into a vein. Dr. Lees Safe BBL procedure takes the necessary steps to make sure this does not occur.
What is the Recovery Like After a Brazilian Butt Lift?
Approximately 50-70% of transferred fat remains after 3 months. The more you stay directly off the area of transfer the less pressure that is placed on the fat and the more that survives. It is imperative that you sleep on your stomach and sit on a BBL pillow that we provide for the first 3 months after the surgery. You may resume light daily activities within 1 week of the surgery and return to work usually after 1 week.
