Patrick Hsu knew at an early age that he wanted to be a surgeon. His uncle is an orthopedic surgeon in California, and while Dr. Hsu spent nearly every summer in California with his uncle and family, he attributes his uncle’s influence on his career decision to be one of paramount importance. Living with his uncle, watching him work at home, and with patients in the office fostered Dr. Hsu’s fascination with the medical field, and he knew he would become a surgeon one day.

Indeed, Houstonians are happy that Dr. Hsu graced the city with his practice Memorial Plastic Surgery in March of 2013. While Dr. Hsu covers all areas within the plastic surgery sector, he mainly focuses on breast augmentations, breast reconstruction, breast lifts, tummy tucks and liposuction, which includes the ever-popular Mommy Makeovers. “I chose the field of plastic surgery because of its diversity. You can work with all age groups and all areas of the body. You deal with skin, muscle, bone, nerves, fat and tendons. In essence, you deal with mostly everything in the human body. Most people don’t know that plastic surgery does not only involve cosmetic surgery, it also involves a lot of reconstructive work,” explains Dr. Hsu.

Following medical school, Dr. Hsu attended the Michael E. DeBakey department of surgery at Baylor College of Medicine, regarded as one of the most rigorous and competitive programs for surgical training in the country. He then completed his plastic surgery fellowship at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Dr. Hsu graduated as president of his class with the highest honors and distinction, including receiving the Rudolph Camishon Award for academic excellence in surgery, and being named Alpha Omega Alpha for excellence in scholarship and the highest ideal in the profession of medicine. With an ever-increasing interest and compassion for breast cancer patients, Dr. Hsu dedicated an additional year to a second fellowship in microsurgery at the M. D. Anderson Cancer Center.

Dr. Hsu elaborates: “I wanted to dedicate an additional year to helping breast cancer patients and to be able to offer them the most advanced forms of reconstruction available. A surgeon who routinely deals with reconstruction should have an edge in cosmetic surgery since rebuilding a breast is always more difficult than touching one up.”

At Memorial Plastic Surgery, the emphasis is on personalized, professional care. The personalized approach and Dr. Hsu’s wonderful bedside manner makes his patients feel at home. “Everyone feels like family in my practice, and I ensure that each and every one of my patients receive top notch service. I will not settle for the status quo; I strive for excellence,” says Dr. Hsu, adding that, “I will always make time to see my patients for more than five minutes. Nobody ever feels rushed because I leave enough time to answer all questions and give advice so I can educate my patients throughout the course of treatment.”

As Memorial Plastic Surgery is steadily growing and expanding in Houston, Dr. Hsu adds, “I genuinely care about my patients and strive to give them the best results I can. I am personally a perfectionist with a meticulous approach to surgery.” Looking ahead, Dr. Hsu will continue to provide quality care and extraordinary results.
